Children to Young Adults

Of all the FTC reports on identity theft complaints, only about 5% involved people who were under the age of 18. A lot of time parents do not even think to check up on their child’s credit. By the time these kids reach 18 it might be too late. You need to teach your kids the importance of protecting all their important documents, and you must let them know that this is truly important. Some identity thieves like to strike younger victims because they are the ones who usually have fewer protections. Make sure that your kids realize that important documents are meant to be kept safe.

Newlyweds

This is a time to have a positive outlook. This is the beginning of your new life and you need to make sure it goes well. However, if your financial information gets compromised then you might have some tough times ahead of you instead. If you have joint accounts then make sure you are both aware of the activity that is going on. You both need to keep the information safe. Make sure that nothing gets lost in translation when you go to combine your bank accounts. You do not want anything to impact you negatively at this point.

Seniors

This is another time when you need to watch out. You might have financial information that is decades old, therefore you might not think that it can be trouble anymore. Do not just throw these out! Your old account information can be used to link you to new accounts, so take care of all the previous documents as well. You need to alert the right people when you feel your credit is under attack. Make sure that you are still looking out for yourself even if you are older. You never know when people can attack your credit. Some thieves like to prey on the seniors.
