ID Theft Scams are More Clever Than Ever
There was a time in our country’s past when identity theft was just beginning. It was a rough process that many people tried, yet only a few succeeded at. Technology has progressed to try and stop these thieves at their best. However, the thieves are keeping up with technology and figuring out new and different ways to steal your identity. In some cases the thieves are actually ahead of the game. This is why you need to always stay on top of your financial situation, because you never know when it can happen to you. Unfortunately, identity theft scams are more clever than ever. Do not get hurt by them.
Did You Miss Jury Duty?
There is a scam floating around now where people have received calls that say they have missed jury duty. The person on the other end of the line says that there is now a warrant out for their arrest but this can all go away. If the victim confirms their personal information with the person on the phone then they can reschedule and everything will work out. The victim might be shaken at the thought of getting arrested, so they comply. The only problem is that they never had jury duty, and they just handed over some valuable information.
Injured Family Members
If you have a family member that is in the service, then this can happen to you. Someone can call you up and say they are from the Red Cross. They will tell you that one of your family members has been injured overseas. In order to make sure that this is your relative, and in order to return them home, the Red Cross will need confirmation of that person’s Social Security number and other information. Well, obviously this is not the Red Cross, because they would not need that information. Make sure you do not comply.
The Standard Methods
Just so you know, the thieves have not given up on their old ways. In fact, there are still people out there who have not caught onto the thieves and the old ways of doing things. Email scams still happen. People are still told that a Prince in Nigeria needs to get rid of $1,000,000 in order to get a bigger fortune. There will always be people that fall for the tricks you might think are out of date. Just make sure that you are not forgetting about the old ways and taking your eyes off of the prize. You can still fall victim to these if you do not watch out.
