They will request that you add them as a friend, and they will try to form some relationship with you. They might even start slow and then work their way into gaining more of your trust. When they finally feel ready then they will start to try and pry that personal information from you. That is why you should always keep your information safe from anybody you meet on a social networking site, no matter how much they feel like a close friend.
You Only Give Away as Much as You Want
No one is forcing you to post your personal information on these social networking accounts. You only put as much as you want on there. Facebook has places where you can post your address and phone number. That does not mean that you have to! If you post it then you are responsible for what happens to it. The best way to beat social networking identity thieves is to not list any information at all. That way nobody can pick up things you did not want them to know. Just remember that you are responsible for whatever happens if you list it.
You Are Mostly on Your Own
Yes, the social networking sites will be able to offer you some sort of help if you need it in regards to identity thieves protection. Unfortunately, the bigger sites will have a lot of responsibilities. That is why you need to make sure that you are always looking out for yourself, because you never know how much help you might be getting at that time. Always alert them to any problem there might be, but never solely rely on them. You need to be at the forefront of this process and assure yourself that everything will go fine.
